Hi [firstname, fallback=Futuremaker]. As promised, here is your first edition of Futuremakers. In it you'll find links to latest news from around the world, features about the state of the planet, and most importantly, ways for you to take action.
Robyn Williams ABC science journalist Just imagine: we could be the last generation to share this world with apes, tigers and polar bears in the wild. There are plenty more creatures, big and small, some even unknown, which could be wiped out by the selfishness, stupidity and sheer greed of other humans. I used to be told to put it more mildly. Now I don't. It's become too drastic. I even put the issue in a novel. Yes, there are lots of ways one little person on their own - or joined with friends - can make a huge difference. Some take a more gentle line - like Jane Goodall and David Attenborough. Others, like Richard Leakey and, perhaps, me are more belligerent. Do it your own way. But do something! Robyn presents Radio National's Science Show, Ockham's Razor and In Conversation. The opinions expressed by our guest writer are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of WWF. ![]() The faces fighting climate chaos In a world of growing disquiet about environmental pressures, an Italian beekeeper, a Tuvaluan community worker and a Queensland farmer have much in common. Not only are they witnesses to climate change and erratic animal behaviour, but they believe if the future is man made, they will do something about it. Flick the switch: Did you know that more than 80% of our electricity is generated by burning coal, which contributes to climate change? If all Australians switched to clean, renewable energy (Green Power) today, Australia's total greenhouse pollution would be cut by 30%. That's the equivalent of what's pumped out by more than 40 million cars! Support WWF: Your donation will help WWF-Australia to continue our work on important environmental issues such as climate change. Spread the word: Forward this email to your friends, family and workmates; talk to them about the issues and encourage them to join you in creating a sustainable future. |
